SUMMARY:NORDESO  2024 General Elections Peace Campaign
DESCRIPTION:As part of its commitment to promoting peaceful communities\, democratic governance\, and sustainable development\, the Northern Development Society (NORDESO) successfully implemented the 2024 Election Peace Campaign across selected communities in Northern Ghana. \nRecognizing that peaceful elections are essential for national stability and community development\, NORDESO worked with community leaders\, youth groups\, women’s associations\, religious leaders\, local authorities\, and civil society partners to encourage peaceful participation before\, during\, and after Ghana’s 2024 General Elections. \nThe campaign focused on raising public awareness about the importance of tolerance\, dialogue\, non-violence\, and responsible civic participation. Through community engagement sessions\, public education activities\, and stakeholder discussions\, NORDESO encouraged citizens to reject political violence\, hate speech\, misinformation\, and actions that could undermine social cohesion. \nA key component of the campaign was youth engagement. Young people were encouraged to become ambassadors for peace by promoting respectful political dialogue\, resolving differences through peaceful means\, and supporting unity within their communities. Women were also empowered to participate actively in peace messaging and community dialogue\, recognizing their critical role in preventing conflict and fostering social harmony. \nTraditional authorities\, faith leaders\, and community influencers played an important role in reinforcing messages of peaceful coexistence\, encouraging political tolerance\, and reminding citizens of their shared responsibility to safeguard peace throughout the electoral process. \nThe campaign contributed to strengthening trust among community members\, promoting constructive dialogue across political divides\, and increasing awareness of the importance of maintaining peace as the foundation for democratic development. \nThrough the 2024 Election Peace Campaign\, NORDESO reaffirmed its commitment to supporting peaceful\, resilient\, and inclusive communities where citizens can exercise their democratic rights without fear of violence or intimidation. \nAs the organization continues its work across Northern Ghana\, NORDESO remains dedicated to advancing peacebuilding\, youth leadership\, social cohesion\, conflict prevention\, and community resilience as essential pillars of sustainable development. \nTogether\, we build peaceful communities for a stronger and more prosperous Ghana.
